NO PLAY ON THIRD DAY BUT STILL PLENTY TO PLAY FOR IN ACC T20

DAY 3 (Match 5-6) ACC T20 EASTERN REGION 2018
February 24, 2018
DAY 4 (3rd/4th Place ) ACC T20 EASTERN REGION 2018
February 25, 2018
Thailand will face Bhutan in the final of the ACC Men’s T20 Eastern Region 2018 competition on Sunday while Myanmar will play China in the third place play-off following a day of frustration at Terdthai Cricket Ground in Bangkok.

Both matches scheduled for the third day of the ACC Men’s T20 were abandoned without a ball bowled when, despite the considerable efforts of all the ground staff and match officials, it proved impossible to get the pitch into a playable condition after heavy rain had soaked the surface on the previous day.

Thailand were due to face China in the morning match and when play was abandoned at 12.30 pm the two sides were awarded one point each which confirmed that Thailand finished in first place in the table on five points and China finished fourth on one point.

Conditions were improving all the time as the sun came out in the afternoon and the curator was able to roll the pitch continuously, so the Bhutan and Myanmar players changed into their playing kits in the hope that a shortened match would be possible in the late afternoon. The winner of this encounter would qualify for the final so it would have been an exciting contest but it was not to be. Even with all the work carried out throughout the day the pitch remained in a soft condition with some damp patches and was finally deemed not fit for play at 4.30 pm.

Again both teams gained one point each which meant that both Bhutan and Myanmar had a total of three points in the table but Bhutan finished in second place because of superior net run-rate with Myanmar in third. Bhutan will now face Thailand in the final which will be held at TCG on Sunday at 2.00 pm, while Myanmar will play China in the third place play-off which is scheduled to start at 10.00 am on the same ground.

All four teams still have plenty to play for on the final day of the ACC Men’s T20 Eastern Region 2018 competition as both matches should be highly competitive. Thailand were put under considerable pressure by Bhutan in their league match when the home side were dismissed for 108 before holding on to triumph by 44 runs. Similarly, Myanmar were made to fight hard by China before winning by four wickets.

There should still be an exciting finish to the ACC Men’s T20 Eastern Region and all four teams will have gained experience and exposure thanks to playing in this competitive four-team event.
