The second day of the ACC U16 Eastern Region competition was badly affected by the torrential storms that brought an end to a long dry spell in the north of Thailand. Malaysia were still able to achieve victory over Thailand at Royal Chiang Mai as they won by 26 runs on the Duckworth Lewis method as rain brought an early end to play after 22 overs of the Malaysia innings after Thailand had almost been able to bat out their 35 overs before being dismissed for 90.

Muhammad Amirul took 4 wickets for 15 in his 7 overs to reduce Thailand to 53 for 8 but the hosts did well to extend their innings for as long as they did. Malaysia also found strokeplay difficult but they had reached 75 for 3 in 22 overs when the heavens opened.

The other match between Hong Kong and China at Prem finished in a no result as heavy rain swept across the ground much earlier in the day. This was bad luck for Hong Kong as they had reached 189 for 3 in 30.3 overs as Jagraj Singh made 53 from 73 balls to record the tournament’s first fifty and Aarush Bhagwat launched a stunning attack to hit 40 from just 23 balls.

Both Hong Kong and China gained one point for their efforts and tournament organizers will be hoping for better conditions when the competition resumes on Monday.
