Thailand made up for the disappointment of missing out on a place in the final by recording a dominant victory over Bhutan after bowling them out for just 20.

Thailand finished in third place in the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup in Kuala Lumpur after producing another outstanding display with the ball.

Opening bowler Pattamawadee Suriya claimed the first three wickets as she returned figures of 4-2-2-3 and off-spinner  Phonphimon Kongdee did the rest with 5 for 8.

Thailand lost only  one wicket as they reached their target in less than five overs.

The Thai bowling attack has been highly consistent throughout the tournament but the batters could only score 65 for 9 in the semi-final against Malaysia despite a brave 24 from opener Pichamon Darajaroen.

Thailand made a great effort to defend that total as four spinners kept Malaysia in check before Suriya claimed two wickets in the 19th over.

Malaysia scrambled to victory by one wicket and faced UAE in the final. The home side nearly pulled off another surprise victory as the final went to the last ball after UAE had earlier been bowled out for  95. UAE he’d on to win by one run.

Thailand could be proud of their efforts with the ball as Kewarin Saechao took 9 wickets for 36, Patcharaporn Sorntha 8 wickets for 41 and Phonphimon Kongdee 7 wickets for 40.

UAE have qualified for the U19 Women’s World Cup which will be held in Nepal and Bangladesh but Thailand and Malaysia had both shown amazing fighting qualities in the  past week.
