THAILAND WOMEN OFF TO A FLIER ON THE FIRST DAY OF THE SEA GAMES

The SEA Games 2025 cricket event got underway and Thailand Women gained an emphatic win in their first match in the women’s T10 competition at AIT. It took less than hour for the Thai girls to bowl out Singapore for just 9 as Thipatcha Putthawong took four wickets and the openers needed four balls to claim a 10-wicket win.

Myanmar beat Philippines by 41 runs in the second match of the day as they scored 99 for 5 thanks to 34 from 20 balls from Win Zar Li and then Thailand faced Indonesia in the third match and more success soon followed.

Thailand easily gained their second victory of the day as they restricted Indonesia to 45 for 7 in 10 overs thanks to three run outs in the field. Nattaya Boochatham then hit an unbeaten 35 as the hosts won by nine wickets and the Thai women have already claimed a place in the T10 semi-finals.

Thailand men’s team started their T20 campaign at TCG as they were asked to bat first by Indonesia. They saw out their 20 overs to make 80 for 9 as Indonesia impressed with the ball with Ferdinando Banunaek starring with 3 for 5.

Thailand eventually lost by five wickets but they fought back strongly thanks to the left-arm spin of Nopphon Senamontree who claimed figures of 3 for 4. He bowled three maidens and conceded just one boundary as he bowled 23 dot balls but he could not prevent Indonesia winning with 3.4 overs to spare.

The afternoon men’s match saw Malaysia face Philippines and Malaysia’s Mohammad Haziq hit the first 100 in SEA Games 2025 as he reached his century in 49 balls with 9 fours and 8 sixes. Haziq finished with 113 from 58 balls in an impressive total of 201 for 9 in 20 overs.

A fine day’s cricket ended with Malaysia completing a comprehensive victory by 114 runs after Philippines made 87 for 9 in 20 overs. Syed Aziz returned figures of 3 for 11 but it was Malaysia’s opener Mohammad Haziq who was very much the player of the first day of SEA Games 2025 after his brilliant century.

The second day of cricket action at SEA Games comes tomorrow with more women’s T10 action at AIT and two more men’s T20 matches at TCG.
