CRICKET RECORDS BROKEN IN THE SEA GAMES WOMEN’S T20
Day eight of SEA Games 2025 saw the continuation of the men’s T10 and women’s T20 which both started yesterday but it will always be remembered for the performance of Natthakan Chantam who rewrote the cricket record books as she hit 148^ from 69 balls and Thailand beat Singapore by 226 runs. SEA Games 2025 will now have a permanent place in cricket’s long history.
The men resumed their competition with four of the five teams all gaining a win on the first day so there was all to play for at AIT. Malaysia gained their second win as they needed less than six overs to chase Singapore’s total of 73 for 8. Malaysia won by seven wickets as Ahmed Faiz reached 50 in 19 balls with 5 sixes and 5 fours.
Malaysia had already beaten Philippines but the silver medallists in men’s T20 are looking for another medal and became the first team to reach 100 in the competition in their match against Indonesia. They posted a total of 104 for 6 but Gede Arta reached fifty as Indonesia chased hard before five wickets fell in the last two overs with Philippines winning by 11 runs.
The runs were flowing in the women’s T20 at TCG as Indonesia reached 196 for 5 against Philippines in the morning match. Emily Sirs reached her 50 in 23 balls with 10 fours as Indonesia posted what was then the highest total in the SEA Games women’s T20. Reyven Castillo could be pleased with figures of 3 for 26 but Ni Kadek Ariani claimed 4 for 8 as Philippines managed 56 for 8 as Indonesia won by 140 runs.
We wondered how long the record SEA Games total would last after Singapore put Thailand into bat first in the second match. The afternoon was dominated by Thailand’s outstanding opener as Natthakan Chantam reached her fifty in 31 balls and hit Thailand’s first 100 from 55 balls in women’s T20Is as Thailand made their highest ever total.
She hit six fours in the 20th over and was inches short of a six from the last ball as she reached 148* from 69 balls as Thailand made 259 for 4 in their 20 overs. Jeen made the equal fifth individual score in women’s T20Is level with Alyssa Healy of Australia and she hit a remarkable 23 fours and four sixes.
Thailand gained their biggest ever victory in Women’s T20Is as they bowled out Singapore for 33 as Pannita Maya blew away the top-order with figures of 4 for 4 and after some resistance Sunida Chaturongtattana took a hat-trick to despatch the tail. Thailand won by 226 runs to reach the semi-finals of the women’s T20 at SEA Games in great style.
Thailand men were outclassed by Malaysia men as they lost by nine wickets in the third match of the day at AIT after Thailand were restricted to 57 for 7. Malaysia now have three wins out of three and look likely to win their second cricket gold when the men’s T20 concludes at TCG tomorrow.
