BAHRAIN WIN THAILAND OPEN IN AN INCREDIBLE FINISH BY BEATING JAPAN IN A SUPER-OVER

The final of the Men’s Thailand Open held at TCG in Bangkok was contested by Japan and Bahrain after Japan had won all three of their round robin matches and Bahrain had squeezed into the final but Bahrain are doubty fighters from the Gulf Region and they scored 14 runs in the 20th over of their innings to tie the scores on 108 for 9 so the match went into a super-over.

Bahrain scored 15 runs in their super-over with a run out off the last ball but Japan fell five runs short with their captain run out without facing. It was an exciting finish to a competitive tournament with hosts Thailand losing to Bhutan by seven runs in the third-place play-off in another dramatic finish.

In the final Japan had recovered from 24 for 5 to reach 108 for 9 as the lower-order battled hard to take their side to a competitive total despite outstanding bowling from Ali Dawood who claimed figures of 4 for 19 as Declen Suzuki-McComb hit 22 from 13 balls at the end.

Bahrain also recovered from 36 for 5 thanks to Yaseer Nazeer who made an unbeaten 41 but it was what he did in the final over with 14 runs required and nine wickets down that was amazing. He hit a six from the third ball and then with eight needed from the last two balls hit a pair of fours to tie the scores.

Bahrain won the super-over to win the tournament after one of the most incredible finishes to any international cricket final.

Thailand had earlier lost to Bhutan in the third-place play-off in a match reduced to 13 overs in a match that also had a very eventful finish. Thailand needed 12 runs from the last over to finish third but lost five wickets and scored four runs to lose the play-off by seven runs. Thinley Jamtsho had figures of 3 for 4 in his one over and there were two run outs after Thailand had needed 87 to win in 13 overs.
