Thailand women finished their tour to Papua New Guinea on a high note by winning the three match ODI series by three matches to nil as PNG were no match for Thailand in the longer form of the game following a last ball victory in the opening T20 contest.

Thailand were strengthened by the return of Natthakan Chantham for the 50-over lseries and she made useful contributions during the series but it was captain Naruemol Chaiwai who played her part in Thailand’s victories in the first two matches.

Naruemol hit a fine 82 from 98 balls in the first ODI as Thailand made a healthy total of 237 for eight as the consistent Nannapat Khonkaeronkai also passed fifty. Thailand won by 121 runs after PNG were bowled out for 116 as off-spinners Sunida Chaturongrattana and Onnicha Kamchomphu both claimed three wickets.

PNG gave an improved performance in the field in the second contest as Thailand were dismissed for 191 although Naruemol this time scored 61 to see her side through to a defendable total as Pauke Siake took 4 for 18.

PNG made a terrible start to their innings as Phannita Maya and Thipatcha Putthawong each took two wickets in their opening spells to reduce the home side to 21 for four inside 10 overs. Although PNG’s lower-order fought back bravely they were bowled out for 151 to mean that Thailand had won the series with victory by 40 runs.

The final match of the series saw PNG choose to bat first on winning the toss but this time they collapsed to 51 for six before Pauke Siaka made an unbeaten 57 to see them through to 122 which meant that they hadn’t completed a full 50 overs in any of their three innings in the series as Onnicha Kamchomphu and Suleeporn Laomi both took three wickets.

Natthakan Chantham scored 48 from 52 balls as Thailand passed 100 with only two wickets down but four wickets from Henao Thomas meant that Thailand won by five wickets as they reached 123 for five.

Thailand’s bowling attack had been impressive and their three main batters had scored runs. Thailand had won all three matches in the series by comfortable margins which means that they return to 12th place in the ICC Women’s ODI Rankings with Scotland the only Associate country rated above them.
