SECOND GOLD FOR MALAYSIA IN MEN’S T10 AND THAILAND BEAT SINGAPORE
The ninth day of SEA Games would see the medals in the Men’s T10 decided and provide a last chance for Thailand men to gain the victory they have so desperately been striving for.
Malaysia duly won their second gold medal in cricket events at SEA Games Thailand 2025 as they followed their success in the Men’s T20 by winning the gold medal in the Men’s T10. Malaysia beat Indonesia by seven wickets after restricting them to 61 for 9 as Virandeep Singh claimed figures of 3 for 4.
Muhammad Haziq and Aslam Khan shared an opening stand of 53 before Malaysia lost three wickets in reaching the target that brought them another golden victory as Virandeep hit the winning boundary.
The first match of the day had seen Singapore take on Philippines looking for revenge for their narrow defeat in the men’s T20. Philippines were happy with a total of 120 for 5 as Andrew Donovan hit five sixes in his 43* but Singapore were undaunted when chasing the highest total of the competition.
Singapore were up with the rate throughout their innings and K Sathish made 53 and Raoul Sharma 38 as they shared a partnership of 85 for the fourth wicket and they gained victory by six wickets with two balls to spare.
Victory over Thailand in the last match of the day would Singapore the silver medal, but Philippines would be cheering on the hosts as a Thailand victory in the tenth and last match of the men’s T10 competition would give Philippines the silver.
Thailand chose to field but victory seemed a distant dream when 26 runs came from the first over. The next nine overs were excellent and Singapore could make only 85 for 8. Thailand’s openers have provided a series of decent starts for their team and this time there were 78 runs on the board before the first wicket was lost.
It was left to Sorawut Desungnoen to bring the hosts a much-wanted victory by eight wickets with a six that also took him to fifty off 21 balls.
Thailand men’s team had saved the best for last with the women’s team cheering them on in the crowd but it was Philippines who could celebrate silver and Singapore were left with bronze.
In the women’s T20 at AIT Malaysia beat Philippines by eight wickets. Philippines could make only 62 for 9 in 20 overs as Mahirah Izzati took 4 for 9 before Malaysia needed only 8.2 overs to reach their target as Winifred Duraisingam hit an unbeaten 34.
The line-up for the women’s T20 semi-finals was completed as Myanmar beat Singapore by 72 runs. Myanmar posted a total of 123 for 7 but Singapore were bowled out for 51 as Phyu Pan Ei took 4 for 13.
