THAILAND CLAIM THE ASEAN WOMEN’S T20 OPEN TOURNAMENT WITH CRUSHING VICTORY OVER BHUTAN

Thailand proved that they were a class apart from the other sides in the Asean Women’s T20 Open Tournament when they made it five wins out of five to win the trophy with a day to spare as demolished Bhutan for just 16 and although both openers fell for ducks Thailand reached 17 for 2 in just two overs to win by eight wickets. Bhutan won the toss and chose to bat first but this soon proved to be a mistake as they were reduced to three for five as Chanida Sutthiruang and Ratanaporn Padunglerd proved virtually unplayable with the new ball. Dechen Wangmo and Sonam Choden both made four runs apiece but three run outs did not help Bhutan’s cause and they were all out in 13.4 overs. At least Anju Gurung raised Bhutan’s spirits by dismissing Nattakan Chantam and Naruemol Chaiwai for golden ducks but the match was over after only two overs of Thailand’s innings as Nattaya Boochatham hit two boundaries to see her side home to victory. Yet another trophy for the Thailand women’s team but there are sterner contests ahead in the Women’s Asian Cup in Malaysia and the Women’s World T20 Qualifier in Netherlands. Thailand topped the table on 10 points but Bhutan finished on just three points with one win, three defeats and a no result. The remaining two matches are played at TCG on Tuesday.
